The Empty Promises of The Leftist Utopia
Being alive in the world today truly makes for an exhilarating experience, it is sort of like getting on an endless roller coaster blindfolded, you never know what is next! Undoubtedly, many generations of individuals have felt the same way. However, there is something particularly intriguing about being a Christian living in America at this time, especially as a young person. The left is sold out, believing that it can remake America into its socialist utopian visions based upon its cries for what it affirms to be “justice.” Many on the right seem caught off-guard. They have historically sent their kids to be educated by their ideological foes and are reaping the results. Don’t be shocked that your kids turn out to be secularists when you send them to be discipled by . . . guess who . . . secularists. Those in my age group, say 18-30, are seemingly the ones who will go a large way into determining the next several decades of roller coaster track this nation has in store.
As I sit evaluating the front, it strikes me that many of my fellow young Christians are allured by the promises of the left. They love the rallying cries for “justice.” With a passionate vigor, they are willing to fight against “racism” anywhere they are told it exists. Indeed, they hate seeing others oppressed or targeted when they have committed no crime. Possessing a strong passion for “justice” they seek to achieve it according to the left’s playbook. Veering towards theological liberalism, they see the morality of the Bible around male and female roles as something which is “patriarchally oppressive.” The Scriptural teaching on sexuality is viewed as “homophobia.” Those applying the Scripture, which says transgenderism is an illusionary lie, will be viewed as “hateful.”
Yet, I wonder if I could possibly get some of these young visionaries to hold up on pursuing the theologically liberal and politically “progressive” dreams for the future. It would be wonderful for them to simply think about the fact that not everything promoted as true is actually legitimate. Nor is all that is labeled justice actually just in the end. Neither is something oppressive simply because a left-leaning individual deemed it so. Perhaps I could urge my young friends to consider that in their quest for “justice” they could actually end up fighting for injustice while believing their battle to be just. I want to sound a wake-up call before those teetering towards leftism see the devastating stain of blood on their hands. I know the passionate fires rage high, thereby necessitating that to call for a mere moment of deep consideration is a matter nearly impossible in our social media age. Yet, I believe the battle lines for truth are drawn with the stakes being eternally high. Therefore, my young friends, let us dive into the deep end of this matter together!
A Virtuous Quest
The vital aspect of this conversation is not simply that I am a self-proclaimed fire-breathing conservative Christian, but I am a passionate advocate for true justice, believing it to be a virtuous and biblical pursuit. I am not just conservative politically, but as conservative as they come theologically. To put it frankly, most of my theological heroes have been dead for centuries. Those men I admire are the ones holding to the truth of that ancient book known as the 66-books of inspired Scripture. Men like Augustine, Martin Luther, John Calvin, George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, Martin Lloyd-Jones, Cornelius Van Til, Francis Schaeffer, and R.C. Sproul. Ah, but you say they have faults, they even disagree with one another on certain points? That is absolutely correct, they were sinners in need of grace, and that is why they clung to Christ the Redeemer. Call me a crazy fanatic, but I believe we can admire men for the good they did while learning from their mistakes lest we repeat them in our own lives. Each of these men fought tooth and nail for Christ across the ages. They passionately proclaimed the full counsel of God’s Word because they loved God and their fellowman. They fought for that which is good and just.
Many would assert there is a contradiction between my desire for justice and my foundational beliefs, yet it is not so. No opposition exists between a deep love for God’s truth and His standard for justice. Justice and truth are found in God, there is no contradiction in Him, thus there exists no discrepancy between truth and justice. On the contrary, the contradiction is on the side of the left. As a biblical Christian, I have the only true standard of justice, the Word of God. I stand upon it and proclaim it. I must call men and women everywhere to repent, each of their own sin, and bow before King Jesus. By placing the standard of Scripture before political leaders, I can call them to repent, place faith in Christ, and exercise their duties unto His glory by His standard. We are duty-bound to apply the Bible in all of life, everything from politics, to church, to family, and all else for Christ is Lord over everything having the complete authority (Matthew 28:18-20). It is only this Scriptural view which truly understands the depths of justice. God’s Word alone provides this stable foundation and unmovable anchor.
Justice By Whose Definition
Desiring justice is undoubtedly a commendable trait. The Lord loves righteousness and justice, so clearly we should pursue these virtues (Psalm 33:5). However, we must ask, “justice by what standard?” What the left claims to be justice is quite different than what I would as a Christian seeking to live by the Scripture. That reality brings us back to the ultimate issue which is one of authority. My standard of justice is unashamedly the Bible. I support the abolition of abortion because I believe based upon God’s Word that the murder of any human is a heinous crime worthy of death. Without hesitation, I will oppose the LGBTQ revolution because it is an assault on reality as created by God seeking to defy His very Word. That revolution merely seeks to enslave people to perversity and irrational ideologies. It must be opposed by anyone fighting for justice. It is the same with Critical Race Theory. Any view which says that someone can or cannot be racist simply by their skin color is steeped in prejudice itself. It is fundamentally flawed being grounded in postmodernism and neo-Marxism. Therefore, I will oppose it as well because I fight against true racism. The battle against racism, prejudice against someone because of their ethnicity, is what I despise and will stand against. CRT prejudices individuals racially, it is an evil ideology opposed to justice.
It is the left that seeks the murder of unborn children at the altar of personal whims. The theological liberals are the ones digging up dead heresies, fashioning them in new clothes. At the end of the day, the heresies are still spiritually dead for they do not have the life-giving Gospel of Christ. It is the left which is opposed to biblical justice and the theological liberals who are opposed to the Gospel of Christ. These are the ones claiming justice while seeking unjust means and ends. They are employing unsound ideologies which are antithetical to the Scripture. My fellow young friends, there is nothing in leftism or liberalism for you. They are only dead-end streets. Many have gone down their paths only to find the fool’s gold at the end of the rainbow. They make many promises, but deliver nothing in the end.
Consider The Matter
The push towards leftism amongst young evangelicals has been strong in recent days. My plea to these young individuals is to see this drive is strictly emotional without the backing of biblical theology. There is no Scriptural argument to be made for so-called progressive political positions or theological liberalism. These ideologies are strictly driven by the whimsical opinions of men supporting false doctrine. They claim justice without the right standard for determining good and evil. In their passionate pleas, those supporting these doctrines preach a “messiah” who is powerless and against the real Jesus. Progressivism and liberalism preach salvation by a different gospel and promote regeneration apart from the Holy Spirit.
If you have gone that road, you must repent and come to the biblical position honoring Christ as Lord. You must see that you have traded your metaphorical royal birthright for a pot of stew. Yet, there is a gracious and merciful Savior eager to forgive all who come to Him. So, bow before the Lord and stay on the path of His Word. Christ is the One who gives us the standard of justice in His Word. Know Him, know the Scripture, proclaim the Gospel, and fight for what is good. Reject Leftism. Honor Christ as King!
