A Month of “Pride”
As the pages of social media fill up with “pride” supporting the LGBTQIA+ movement, many Christians are likely prone to fill discouraged. Undoubtedly, rank moral perversity filling the halls of our culture should cause us great sorrow. It is not merely social media, but the major institutions of our country that promote this month focusing on LGBTQIA+ individuals. Leaders in academia, the military, healthcare, business, and politics are supporting this celebration in large swaths. Just as one example, here is President Biden:
“Pride stands for courage. It stands for justice. And it stands for love.
During Pride Month, we celebrate generations of LGBTQ+ people who have fought to make the possibilities of our nation real for every American, and we remain committed to delivering equality for all.”1
Christians shall have their inboxes and social media pages inundated with comments precisely like this one for the rest of this month. It will seem to many as though those actively trying to undermine the biblical view of the family are going to be victorious. Throughout such a time, it strikes me that we need a hard dose of reality to keep us strong. We need solid Truth to be able to stand on in order to keep our wits about us in a society which denies basic realities in life. Our hearts need to be refreshed by the truth of the Word. The reality we must remember is that Christ is the Lord who has spoken authoritatively and . . . He triumphs!
When thinking about the LGBQIA+ movement it is essential for us to realize this is an ideology and activist group driven by false doctrine. They do not bow before the true and living God. Consequently, in their understanding of both the family and humanity they are foundationally in grave error because their beliefs are not being informed by the Word of God. As Romans 1 clearly puts it, ungodly and unrighteous men “suppress the truth (vs 18)” about God that is so plainly set forth. All of creation shouts the glory and majesty of the Creator. Yet, God is not only the Creator He is also the Sustainer of that which He has made. Jesus “upholds the universe by the word of his power (Hebrews 1:3).” As the One who not only created everything but also continues to sustain it, the Lord is in sovereign control over each and every day, He always has been and always will be. This is the fundamental point over which Christianity and everyone else disagree. The rejection of this point leads the LGBTQIA+ movement into perversion worshipping their sinful lusts as creatures instead of bowing before the blessed God (Romans 1:24-25).
Make no mistake, because Christ upholds everything at the sovereign seat of authority, those individuals and nations which refuse to bow before Him will face His judgment. Hence why the Kings of the earth are warned:
“The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
‘Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.’
He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
‘As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.’” -Psalm 2:2-6
Every person, ruler, and nation is commanded to bow down before Jesus Christ, all the peoples of the earth owe Him their worship. The reality is that Jesus has the seat of all supremacy and all rebellion against Him is futile. It will lead to eternal destruction before the righteous Judge. God has instituted the family. He defines precisely what it is and is not. He has ordained the family to be one man and one woman united in the covenant of marriage bearing children according to His providential plan for the glory of His name (Genesis 1 and 2). Humanity will flourish when they run to God’s good design submitting to Him. Perversions of what God has ordained lead to the devastation and eternal ruin which sin always wreaks. Those in our culture promoting the LGBTQIA+ movement are living according to lies not only about the family, but also the individual. Asserting a person has the capability to define their own identity choosing to be male or female is blatant rebellion against God’s created order. Because Christ is on His throne and He has made the world living according to sinful perversion of any kind will reap devastation.
Living In Truth
What should we as Christians do when living in a culture increasingly growing dark for the moment? We must hold fast to the truth of Christ shining His bright light into the world. Our objective must be steadfastness as individuals, families, and churches both heralding and living out the truth every day. Our culture wants to believe there is no King above them. Such was the reaction of Israel in their rebellion against God:
“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
The message of Christianity is not that there is “no king” but rather that there is a King seated on high, His name is Jesus Christ, and we must submit to Him as the victorious Sovereign Lord! Let us then preach His Gospel to every lost soul knowing His power to save. May we have the courage to hold firmly to His calling upon us in every area not being deluded by the lies around us. By Christ’s power, let us raise up families beautifully watching them grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Let churches be lighthouses for their communities proclaiming the glories of Christ and His Word. Through Christ, let us each remember the truth, live by the truth, and declare the truth that the Lord Jesus may be highly praised!
