Shocking Claims Worth Examining
Integrity, it is an important concept and references the necessity to act morally in all of your life. A person who has integrity lives virtuously before God in everything. They are not hypocritical. Nor are they shady in how they deal with others. Any notion of a hidden private life different from their public persona is unthinkable. Individuals possessing integrity are firmly grounded in moral principles and strive to live out those values with faithfulness.
Intriguingly yet unsurprisingly, there is an organization which exists known as “Evangelicals For Biden.”1 As a worldview/cultural analysis fanatic, I cannot help but take note when I see such a bright spectacle of an oxymoron. Towards the very opening portion of their site, this organization says:
“Evangelicals For Biden supported Joe Biden because we knew that our country desperately needed a person of integrity as our President.”
“A person of integrity” most assuredly is what you ideally want in leaders. Nonetheless, Joe Biden is not going to be your guy if you are looking for a man of integrity. He has admitted to plagiarizing in law school as a mistake, but has continued using the material of other individuals in speeches without giving credit.2 Even more than this, Biden clearly stated on his campaign website his desire to restore funding to Planned Parenthood.3 Since when does a person of integrity support murdering babies? He also talks about his passion for fighting to see the protection for the “rights” of transgender “women.” Those rights which of course include equal access to bathrooms and sports.5 Many conservatives call this executive order from Biden the “end of women’s sports” considering men could not compete in female athletic competition. This is the man being hailed as having excellence in regards to his integrity.
A Lesson Worth Learning
Why examine an organization supporting the current president when the next presidential election is not in the immediate future? Simply because the examples of past and present errors can prevent future mistakes if we are willing to learn. My sole issue is not only that this organization supports Biden, but that they also misrepresent who he is and what he stands for in his campaign. Whether this action is taken intentionally or unintentionally I cannot judge, but at the very least they certainly have a rose-colored, giddy-eyed view of this man. We would all do well to learn from that error.
When considering political candidates it is important we obtain a robust understanding of their positions and viewpoints. If you only look at what they promise in their speeches you will be misled. Giving a cursory glance at their website without diving into the details is not sufficient either. It is our duty as evangelical Christians to engage thoughtfully on these subjects. Instead of being led astray by the smiling faces and empty messages of politicians, we should seek to know what they actually believe and will put into action. Indeed, the lesson here at this point is to be thoughtful, to engage in research, to be intellectually honest, and to seek to support candidates who will stand for good and not evil.
Actions Worth Taking
Not only should we be more robust intellectually, we should also be more active as evangelicals. Contact your Senators and find out where they stand on issues. Make sure they are aware of certain issues which need to be dealt with during their time in office. Dive into a candidate’s history of action and work before voting for them. Ask other wise individuals what they think about a candidate, especially if they have political experience.
The saddest part of the Evangelicals For Biden organization is it appears they have bought lies hook, line, and sinker. Instead of seeking the issues with clarity, they are peering through lenses that tent their viewpoint and skew their understanding. May we instead be people with clear vision and deep understanding. Let us determine to not falter towards error, but hold to truth and seek it out. Truth is what will guide us to make wise decisions in every realm of our lives for Christ’s glory.
